On To Perfection

“The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me…” Psalm 138:8

Perfect, what a word. My Flip Dictionary gives me absolute, accomplish, accurate, blameless, complete, consummate, correct, culminating, entire, exact, excellent, expert…and a long string of others. Whoa, do I ever like this scripture. The LORD—not Jerry, or my neighbor, or one of the grandkids, or a teacher, or another preacher somewhere—the LORD will perfect that which concerneth me. Love it!

I’ve had a good life—oh a couple of nasty setbacks, a tankful of sickness, a barrage of injury, untimely deaths, general disappointment—but on the whole, a good life. Having said that, I do not regard my life as perfect. Too many loose ends, slippery places, questions and disturbances. But this morning, while yet it is dark outside, comes David and his beautiful writing to the rescue: The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me.

And so as I go through this day, my soul will rest secure. I feel safe and content, for no matter which of life’s challenges I may tangle with today, God is here, perfecting my life and everything that concerns me. May not feel like it, I may lack a sense of God’s working, it may seem anything except perfect, but my faith in His Word, and His promises opens my eyes so that I see perfection working away in my world.

    Good morning, Timbob.

Sometimes I am guilty of letting words fall from my mouth without truly thinking of their meaning. Such power and comfort is in the words you brought today: Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us! What an awesome God.
