“Oh that I were as in months pasts…when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle:”

Job 29:2-4

Is there a different one among you? There—among your Christian friends—is there one whom you sense to have the “secret of God” about her/him? Is there a distinct aura in sight or sound or conversation? You sense a glow, a shimmering, an edge of glory, and you reach—to hold, to define—but elusive is such, and your stretch may be carnal, and exceedingly short.

“They have been with Jesus,” the townspeople shouted when they came among the disciples, for surely when one has been in the physical presence of Jesus, there lingers His fragrance and a sense of His power and supreme authority. An unearthly fire must have simmered in their bones; a lucent quality surely glowed from their faces.

A minister stopped to greet a man as he left the post office. Startled, the man spoke: “May I ask you a question?”

“Certainly,” the minister replied.

“Why is it that when I shake your hand, I feel something extraordinary? What is that I’m feeling?”

I want the secret of God on my tabernacle; I want to meddle there and engage myself. I covet a glowing face, a shimmering in my bones, and that unique aura that comes by having edged close—and ever closer—to Glory.

  1. Carol, were we quizzed, the number of Christians who would answer, “Yes, I want such a spirit about me,” would no doubt be quite high. To get there, though, for myself, I know I need to spend more time with Jesus, so that people can honestly say, “There is someone who has been with the Lord.”

What godly goals and attractions are placed before us. We can reach them, too! I fully believe that.

See you next week, I hope.

  2. Acts 4:13 “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.”

  3. Good morning, everyone.

Cumby, it always is an encouragement to me, unlearned and ignorant as I am, to consider that Peter and John were such people, yet they made a profound impact on their world. Oh, that such could be said of me—not for any glory of mine, but that my life would cause people to acknowledge Jesus and His glorious power.

    Blessings.

  4. Hello, Jana.

I believe one of the things that make songs so powerful is the message they carry. Couple that with beautiful melody and you have a soul-stirring vehicle.

    Love you.

  5. That was an awesome post. I am telling you right now. I am stealing it. I am cutting and pasting as we speak. Not for publishing, but to share with a friend. I will put a disclaimer on there too. LOL

  6. Beautiful devotional. Very thought provoking. It reminds me of that scripture in Acts 4:13…..”and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus..”

  7. Oh how I long for fellow believers of such like spirit. Thank you for your post, Shirley. I long to be that kind of believer too….

    God bless,
    Jen

  8. To enter into His presence and let His spirit invade mine is what I long for. To be with Him so much that others can truly see Jesus. It’s not me I want them to see, not for my glory, but His. That He would be lifted up is my desire! God, bless all these wonderful people who have written beautiful words, and bless Shirley, our friend for letting us see you more deeply.

  9. Jennifer, Karen and Linda. Thank you for your sweet words, and for sharing so that we know there are many who truly desire to have a sweet and deep walk with Jesus.

He will help us all, I feel sure of it.
