My heart bleeds this afternoon for the parents of Cho Seung-Hui. Were I offered the position of being the mother of one of those murdered in such a gruesome way yesterday, or to be the mother of Cho Seung-Hui, I would doubtless choose a relationship with one of the innocent ones. So would you, I feel confident.
I’ve tried to imagine the shame and sorrow his parents must feel at this moment, and though I in no way excuse the deplorable actions of their son, I do feel pity for them. I experience this emotion in part, I’m sure, because I recognize that I am not at all perfect myself, and because I am the mother of children whom I know to be imperfect. While feeling absolutely sure my imperfection and those of my children would never lead to such monstrous acts, yet I weep for the devastated family of Cho Seung-Hui.
I bring one scripture that I hope will be of comfort to all of us who mourn during these days of crisis. I pray that through God some peace may be found for the mother and father of Cho. May they lean heavily on Him, and rest in His strong arms of love and tenderness.
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort.” II Corinthians 1:3
Update: Friday, April 20th As reported by Fox News, Cho Seung-Hui’s sister sadly speaks: “We are hopeless, helpless and lost over my brother’s senseless act.”

I pray that God would indeed be this to the family of Cho and also to the families of those who have lost loved ones.
Sister Buxton–this is just one of the things I love about you. You always think of both parties, not just the obvious one.
I too join you in praying for Cho Seung-Hui’s family. May the Lord be there all in the days to come.
And I will also be praying for the families of those who died. May they also find comfort and peace in the days to come, but forgiveness as well.
We serve a great big mighty God and I know He can do what we think is impossible.

Yes, my heart too bleeds for this family. I can only imaging the suffering they are going through at these moments. I pray God’s grace over this family and that they will sence the peace only God can give during times like these 😦
Shirley, I love the compassion and tenderness you have displayed in this post. Surely, the family of Cho Seung-Hui must feel shame and guilt and helplessness along with their loss. May God comfort them with His love and gentleness and His magnanimous mercy.
This caused me to think of the Quakers who extended such love and generosity to the widow of the man who came into their school and shot several students. The Quakers set a beautiful example of forgiveness and compassion. Now it is our turn to do the same.
