A Command to My Soul

“Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” Psalm 103:1

In my opinion, one of the most beautiful songs in the world is taken from this portion of scripture. The lyrics, written by the sweet Psalmist of Israel, are strikingly beautiful, and the chords and progressions in the song are majestic–quite fitting for these sterling words.

Once, when I was singing the song, it occured to me that as I did so, I was speaking to my soul–commanding it, if you will, to “bless the Lord.” Bless the Lord! Think about it! Oh, that I could truly bless the Lord, oh that I could wholly praise Him and honor Him and elevate Him. Sing, my soul. Exalt Him, bless Him, give Him glory!

So this day, as we go about our various activities, let us command our souls. Sing! Praise! Bless the Lord!
