“Of Talents and Rewards” did I name our bible study today here at DJs, our text scripture being Matthew 25:14-30. You probably are familiar with the story of the merchantman leaving for an extended trip and placing his property in the hands of his servants. He gave money to take care of his business: to one 5 talents, to another 3, and to the last, 1 talent.
I suspect most of us are one talent people, and I pray that we are wiser than our biblical example, who took the talent, and buried it in the ground for safekeeping. Angry, was the merchantman on returning from the trip, and hearing of this development. The talent was snatched from the unwise servant, and he was cast into outer darkness.
One talent person? Is that you? Is that me? Is it possible that a person may spend eternity away from God because we were too small, too stingy, too weak, too fearful, to utilize the small talent God gave us? I urge you to the earth today; find the spot where you digged and where you hid. Take out the talent, invest it, spend it. Save a neighbor, a friend, a colleage. Perhaps, probably, likely, in so doing, you also, will save yourself.
