“And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones,…” II Chronicles 20:13

What provocative and stimulating words are posted here in the chronicles or stories of Judah. As these people of Israel stood before God with their children, they were in dire straits, in desperate need of help. Trouble had invaded them, the enemy had encroached on their land, and, now, here they stood…before God…with their children.

It is hard to image when this portion of scripture would be more applicable than it is this day. I find it impossible to imagine people more needy of such scripture than we, the people of God, who live in the 21st century. While I am far from being a panic-crier, I find it only honest to admit that we are in trouble, and that we stand in desperate need of help. The enemy surrounds us, threatening our children, and trying to snatch away any hope of godly living. The devastated world into which our children are born is a vile and filthy place. It smacks of dishonor and deceit and danger. And thus…we stand before God with our children.

Hold on! Good news comes in the following verses:

“Then upon Jahaziel…came the Spirit of the LORD…And he said, …Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

Tomorrow go ye down against them…Ye shall not need to fight in this battle; set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you,…for the LORD will be with you.

And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD sent ambushments against (those that) were come against Judah; and they were smitten.”

Portions of II Chronicles 20:14-22

Less than 48 hours ago, our 8th great-grandchild was born. Jerry and I are wise enough to understand that the battle is not ours, that, with our little ones, we must stand still before God. He will fight our battles. Realistic though we are, we stand fearless as smoke and fire rages; we’ve set ourselves, we sing, and we praise. Ambushments are coming!

    Good Morning Mom,

If we didn’t have God in our lives and the gift of salvation the outlook would indeed be abysmal. Thank you for the reminder of that hope.

    Love you,
    Rebecca
