“This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, the likeness of God made he him;” Genesis 5:1
Is this not remarkable? Is this not humbling? To imagine that we humans were created in the image of God…for… as God bent over what may have been His most important work of creation, this sculpted and fashioned man was designed in the image of God Himself. God, the Great Spirit, looked ahead to Bethlehem where would be born Jesus, and in that likeness were we made. Amazing!
Elie Wiesel from his book Night writes in this way:
“We believed in God, trusted in man, and lived with the illusion that every one of us has been entrusted with a sacred spark from the Shekhinah’s flame; that every one of us carries in his eyes and in his soul a reflection of God’s image.”
I invite you to think on this. Look into the eye of those you jostle with today…and consider that surely there is revealed a spark from “Shekhinah’s flame.”
